My training has been put on hold for a little while due to me twisting my knee. I would love to say I did it in a spectacular fashion falling over, or running for a bus, or dancing, but no, I did it turning round in my kitchen!
It's starting to improve now so I'll be getting back to short walks but ultimately I felt getting it healed was more important than the training. Worst come to the worst, I know I can complete the marathon (all be it a lot slower than planned with more wanting to die) on very little training but if I push my knee too far I may not even be able to begin the marathon let alone finish it.

When the rain stops
After the snow and rain of the last few days, I was pleasantly surprised to find the sun out and a slight warmth to the air. Due to meet some friends for tea I decided to combine my trip out with my walk for the day.
The first half of my walk took me down the canal and back up again to a local cafe. I covered 2.8 miles with a an average speed of 3.6 miles but an average moving speed of 5.5 miles. Very pleased with myself for that.
I was very good at the cafe, rather than a creamyd elicious hot chocolate, I chose a nice refreshing tea and whilst both my friends enjoyed some wonderful cakes, I chose a couple of small chocolate truffles.
The second half of my walk took a different route to the original planned as I walked friends in to town. Despite that I still covered 3.4 miles with an average moving speed of 4.5 miles despite taking what I felt was a leisurely pace.
Total distance: 6.2 miles

Snow and wind and rain
Today I had a day school for uni at Stirling University. After waking at 6am I headed out for my train at 7:30am and walked the mile to the station. Normally this wouldn't be a problem however it was snowing quite hard and by the time I reached the station I was well on the way to soaked.
Arriving at Bridge of Allan it was still snowing however this time I had a 2 mile walk and was well and truly soaked to the skin by the time I got to uni. I had expected to have to walk back the way as well at the end of the day but thankfully a colleague offered me a lift to save me from hyperthermia.
Total distance: 3 miles

My Tracks
When I did my first marathon back in 2007 all I had to plan and track my walk distances was an Edinburgh A-Z and a peice of string and then a pedometer out on the walks. The pedoometer was unreliable, my stride length would change, it wouldn't pick up every step. It was hard.
4 years on, things have changed, I can use google maps to plan a rough route and then the fancy GPS and "My Tracks" App on my phone records my exact route, distance travelled, average and fastest speeds. It's fantastic.
Today was a lovely walk. The Boy needed to collect some papers from works I decided to accompany him. The sun was shining but there was a biting wind. Our walk home allowed a detour to real foods to pick up some delicious dairy free treats before strolling home.
Distance covered: 5.7 miles
Time: irrelevant due to a long while browsing real foods
Average moving speed: 3.5 miles, not bad for a stroll but needs improving

Plans, and how not to keep them.
It's my birthday today! What better way to celebrate than a walk? It's been such glorious weather the last few days so I'd planned an early wake up and a nice 5 mile stroll along the river and canal. However on waking, the sun wasn't shining and the motivation just wasn't there.
It's ok though, I'll still get my 5 miles in as I've been promised birthday tea and a trip to the cinema, both of which are a walk away. Maybe the sun will even make it out by then.

Stretching.....
I hate stretching. I understand the principle of it, it keeps you supple and flexible, but to be honest, it's really boring. Then there's the problem of what to stretch and how to stretch it. I'm supposed to be stretching for at least 15 minutes every day for my training so I guess I'll start with the legs and maybe then I'll start to enjoy it and want to stretch other bits too.
My walk yesterday didn't happen, I was taken out to comedy on Monday evening and was out very late, but it's ok, I can catch up on Thursday.
Today has brought another enjoyable stroll to the pool, spring has definitely sprung.
1.8 miles
60 lengths in the pool
1.8 miles
Total: 3.6 miles
Next walk: Thursday, 5 miles
